Absolutely no Lancia interest here. My two excuses are to encourage others to come to "Park it in the market" in Greenwich and to post some more photos of Chris's team mate - see the thread: http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=7534.msg53649#msg53649The meeting is really varied - I'll leave the photos to show that. A few "vintage" stalls and some specialists, live music, two pubs, lots of "street food". I always have a pizza out the Citroen H van with its wood fire oven. I managed to get to two this year. If I knew a Lancia was on its way I'd make all the more effort for a break out. What helps for me is that it finishes at 11pm. The Rover is Ian Conway's - some might remember him racing Fulvias. OWE 250K is the one I remember best but also a Fanalone look-a-likely that followed it and a LHD road going car that proceeded it. Looks great fun David, and all under cover too by the look of it. Is that Ian Conway driving the Rover? Hasn't changed at all if it is. What a great event. I think the Alfa next to an Austin 1100 sums it up. That Alfa engine is something else. Pizza too!

A great event - and hat's off to him bringing a car like that for us all to enjoy. Might also be the one featured in the last month or so in one of the monthly glossies. Having said that the Unimog stole the show and the Austin 1100 was a real delight to see. Second time I think it was a Velosolex that made my day. No throttle as such - just stop or go. He reigns it in with the decompressor but admits it can get exciting. I guess it was built for "inter village" cruising not for a Greenwich one way system. When I had a Rudge autocycle that was a bit too fast for me (please, snigger yee not, in context....) and I realised that the motor was to give a top speed beyond cycling - a warp drive - not there to save fat lazy people from having to peddle. Amazing wire wheels, never seen the like before but they look terribly vulnerable to damage. Not keen on the lighting although at least it looks better than that at the Ace Cafe by night. Brian 8227

Brian - those wheels remind me very much of those used on racing Astons of the 50's like the DB3. I'm not sure of the purpose of that design. I'm sure someone here can enlighten us.

That's Christopher Mann and his Disco Volante which we see quite frequently in VSCC races for drum-braked sports cars.
The wheels are similar to the Borrani pattern fitted to the Aston Martin DB3S. I think the reason on the Aston was that the trailing arm front suspension meant that the wheel rim had to be well inset to achieve proper centre-point steering. Not sure whether this was the reason on the Alfa: what front suspension design was used?

FRank, Have a look at the photos of Chris Gawne racing at Castle Combe, the disco Volante shown racing looks awfully like this one but I can't see the number plate to confirm if it's the same car. Just had another look and it's the same car, and carries a number 16 lust in front of the left hand door. Brian 8227

This is what I understood to be the Disco Volante Roadster, which also seems to be smaller than the other one.

Quite right Brian and nothing like the "market" car.
Apart from the dash treatment and covered fuel filler it looks a dead ringer for the first picture I posted.
