One of the towns in the Derbyshire Dales is Bakewell, famous for its pudding. This is of course nothing to do with the tart made popular by Mr Kipling, rather an almond/egg custard filling covering raspberry jam in a puff pastry case.
As part of my research into delicacies to entice the palate on the Sliding Pillar Rally, I thought I should sample this delight.
So this afternoon I made my first Bakewell pudding. Mrs R was suitably impressed, so it will now be on the menu for 2016.

Bizarrely enough I got a Bakewell pudding in the post once sent from England to here in France by 'Puddingpost'. It came from here
http://www.bakewellpuddingshop.co.uk/
and is supposed to be how an original Bakewell pudding should be. Again, nothing like Mr Kiplings version (which I admit I sometimes hanker after in Bakewell tartless France).

Well, well, Ade, at last you are coming north-ish.    I shall come though in which car I shall have to decide later - "if I am spared" that is.

The planning for this year's Sliding Pillar rally is going well, but I have not finalised all the details. Therefore I haven't produced a brochure or booking form yet.
However I have had lots of people already expressing an interest and pre booking rooms.
As we will only have 40 rooms available this year, may I suggest that if you wish to come you contact me asap to reserve a room. First come first served, and if previous years are anything to go by, I would expect all rooms to be booked by the end of January.
Ade.

For those of you lucky enough to get a place on this year's Sliding Pillar Rally or for those who would like to come and see the cars, this is the planned itinerary of the event:
Friday 3rd June, arrive at our hotel for the weekend, The Izaak Walton, in Dovedale, just north of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Welcome meal at hotel.
Saturday 4th June, drive via scenic roads to Castleton where special parking has been arranged.
Visit Peak Cavern followed by a light lunch in the Bulls Head. Afternoon drive via Monsal Head, chance to walk down to the viaduct and tunnel, then back to the hotel via Bakewell. (Stop to buy puddings if you like!!) Gala dinner at hotel.
Sunday 5th June, after a leisurely breakfast drive to Crich Tramway Village, where the cars will be parked in the village, plenty of time to look around. Lunch at the pub in the village.
Afternoon drive via the World Heritage site of the Derwent Valley, stopping at Cromford Mill, where we will park in the Mill courtyard, back to the hotel. Warning! the route includes a ford crossing! Farewell dinner at the hotel.
Monday 6th June, Breakfast and goodbyes.

I have a horrible feeling that there will be one or two (probably older) members who do not use the forum but who wish to attend the SPR 2016 and who will be unhappy that the event is sold out before they have received printed details.

I am sorry if there is anyone who has missed out this year, most of the regulars pre-book up to a year in advance anyway.
It becomes a logistical nightmare with anything over 100 people and I apologize to those who wanted to come but can't now, but as my wife and I organise it all ourselves as well as running my own business I just don't have enough hours in the day. And no this isn't a plea for help, I prefer to do it this way as I can keep control of everything.

Is the Sliding Pillar Rally still restricted to Lancia cars with sliding pillar front suspension? I presume not having attended and enjoyed last year event. Is this possibly part of the problem of demand exceeding supply?

I do not encourage non S.P. cars on the event, but sometimes there may be one or two due to the owners not having their S.P. car on the road.
The Europeans do allow a limited number.
The main reason for oversubscription is that I cannot find large enough hotels in nice locations.
I will not go to large hotel groups with anonymous hotels in town center locations.
I think that due to this policy we always have interesting places to stay that everyone enjoys, so therefore everyone wants to attend. Catch twentytwo!
BUT it ensures a successful rally.  I will not compromise the quality of the rally just to get more people attending. Also as I have said before, over 100 people and it becomes a logistical nightmare.
