how does this 'box compare with a fulvia saloon s2 box? 'fitting +ratios' as i have been advised by more than one member that fulvia saloons are under geared for some drivers tastes.best regards richard

If you Fulvia Berlina goes as well as the one Don Cross owns when you have it back on the road I don't think you'll be disappointed, I suspect if you are being advised that Saloons are undergeared then IMO they are talking about Series 1 saloons such as my 2c, which is definitely undergeared with 70mph being nearly 4500 RPm, on the other hand as over a Ton (Imperial) of car is being pulled around by 1091cc anything higher unless somewhere where it's flat, such as Holland, where a friends 2c has been geared up to good effect, higher gearing might be a mistake, I certainly wouldn't have liked to try climbing the Alps on my way back from Turin in 2006, if I had gone with the higher gearing theory, really a case of "horses for course".
In the "concise Repair Shop Manual" it shows that the 1.3 saloon is at least 90kgs heavier than a 1.3 coupe and the 1.3 coupe produces 90bhp @6000rpm whereas the saloon only produces 85bhp @ 6000 rpm.
So with the saloon being 5 BHP down, as well as weighing considerably more than the 1300 Coupe I don't believe making the gearing higher is going to help the performance to a great degree, if at all; far better to see how satisfied you are with the performance once you have it back on the road and then see if you really think it's a worthwhile modification, personally I don't think you will.
With the top speed of the series 2 saloon shown as being 99.4 mph as opposed to a 105mph for the coupe, is it really a worthwhile mod?
I'd rather go for a set of Dellorto's, which are a great improvement over the standard solexes.
