To complete this thread. Bob - from memory yours is a 1.8. Following is post from William Corke. I am having my exhaust fitted on 12th May and will report back then. It turned out the consortium doesn't have these, but Colin Clamp pointed me toward ebay.de, where a supplier sells two types of Flavia exhausts. These are IMASAF manufactured (I don't know anything about this operation, though quick Googling shows that they are Italian). I opted for the earlier type, which combines the flow from adjacent cylinders earlier than the later type. Illustrated below: Early (1800); Late (2000); This Saturday I fitted the system, which arrived promptly, very wel

I have a rear silencer from them for my 1600HF Fulvia, and it is well made and has 2 years warranty, and sounds just like a fulvia should, even after a very rapid motorway trip of 340 miles

What's the verdict on the exhaust then? I have a Stainless steel system on my PF Coupe and I've been toying with changing over to a mild steel system for the better sound absorption. 4 pipes converging into one under the front floorpan makes for a rather boomy cabin noise at speeds over 65mph.
Maybe it's not worth it? Has anyone else got experience of stainless steel vs Mild steel in terms of noise levels?

I'm very happy with the mild-steel system that I fitted last year. It is quiet; possibly a bit too quiet for some tastes. You seldom hear anything from the engine apart from tappet and cooling fan noise, even on full throttle. I like it that way and think that it enhances the grown-up character of the Flavia.
I would imagine that in a closed car like the coupe the difference from a loud SS system (they are not all equally loud, though most people with ears find the timbre differs if not the volume) would be even more marked.

I haven't proffered an opinion yet because I have yet to get past the initial tinniness of the exhaust. It is getting better, especially good at speed but still a bit jangly at tick over. I will report back within the month when I can give the exhaust a fair appraisal.

Hi, any conclusive verdict on the benefits of the new mild steel exhaust yet? Thumbs up / down / wavering?
I'm swithering over changing my Flavia stainless steel system to mild next month so interested to get your opinion.

I'm looking forward to you all begging for me to take stainless exhausts off you - then leaving out a box - or two.
Some way off...but let me enjoy the thought.

I know it does not quite answer the question but I have just fitted a mild steel gp4 exhaust in place of a stainless system on my 1600hf. Apart from the loudness (96 dbplus) the timbre of the system is more mellow than the buzzy ss system (that had been on for 10000 miles). What I do not like is the boom at c4000 rpm which I hope to sort by strategically positioned "damping" exhaust clamps down the main center pipe.
If any one has any thoughs on reducing boom please let us know.

The exhaust is getting better but still needs a wee bit more carbon deposited to make more mellow. Sorry for the protracted verdict exacerbated by time off road due to faulty clutch.

If any one has any thoughs on reducing boom please let us know. You could fit a rev limiter, such as a block of wood under the accelerator pedal!
