I forgot to say that if anyone recorded the Motors TV coverage of our race, we'd love to get a copy. We didn't set the Sky + and the edited highlights don't show enough of the race. I'm intrigued to know what everyone was up to while I was trying to make up places!

David, can never have too many photos apart from the time it takes you to download them here. I saw the 75th Anniversary of September 15th 1940 last night and as you said, it was the Blenheim that grabbed my attention. Those massive engines next to that delicate nose. I believe they carried out the first ever British bombing raid of WW2 against bridges at Maastricht and from memory it was a bit of a disaster. Car wise, I'm a sucker for the little Fiat Abarths (probably wouldn't even fit in one) but for a serious drive, the 250LM, a lifetime favourite.

Anyone spot that it was Sterling Moss in the dark blue 250 SWB no 7?
The digital sound recorder is a new toy. If only there was something to capture the smells as well... Tom likes putting films together and I didn't want the excellent HD footage my pocket camera captures (witchcraft!!!) alongside the wind woofle and chit chat the pin hole microphone picks up. I hesitated over buying the directional microphone to plug into it, maybe another time. We were a bit shy to interview people but I'd like to have had some of the "have you seen the..." random conversations. We got fairground and aircraft and start ups and paddock and the particular bubble of conversation that echos down the tunnels.
Of course lots of lovely cars there, but it occurred to me that, say, a Gamma is MUCH closer to a 250 SWB than a Yarris, and that punting a Beta round Goodwood isn't all that different to a GTO. Its a case of rapidly diminishing returns. Another example might be bobbing about on the Solent in a 2K boat as the J Class goes creaming past. For sure there's a difference but its still bobbing about on the same bit of water under the same sky playing the same game with wind and tide. Doing the activity AT ALL is 90pct of it.

Moss has been driving the blue 250 SWB with the Number 7 on for years as I've seen it many times at the Revival, something to do with his competition days I believe, great photos David. Brian 8227

Uploading takes next to no time at all. Its getting down from 1200 photos to at least a half reasonable number with lots of repetition and some of my favorites being cropped from much (sometimes much much) larger images. It cements the memories for myself, and leaves me with a reasonable size album to show others.

I've ordered the Haynes Manual which is based on the restoration of this aircraft. It has such a SciFi look to it, so much character. There was ALWAYS a crowd and those two gents there with it must have been hoarse by the end of the weekend as they seemed to be constantly answering questions.
The Voiturettes are always a highlight for me, on track and in the paddock. That little 1950s Maserati sports racer had the same appeal as "just a little one" that might be on my side rather than wanting to kill me and perhaps just about manageable as a home mechanic. For Tom is was what privileged access you get, so much more than in any museum, the level of trust getting so close to the machines and even the spares and tools. He'd never got that close up to a Blower Bentley, to see the dash, to see and hear it in motion and up against the tiddly contemporaries.

Another way to enjoy Goodwood (for freeee) is on one of the track days when cars are out trying to catch the eye of the selectors or on one of the test days closer to the event. You get to see the same cars at similar speeds but from anywhere you like, you get into the pits and on the pit wall and roof, being a more relaxed day the mechanics (and drivers) will be shooting the breeze with whoever is about which gives fascinating insights into that world. You can also play the game of NOT recognizing celebs - James Martin was one who expected me to know him and I enjoyed pretending not. I went to a couple when Ian Conway was on the casting couch (he never got The Letter) but we enjoyed those days so much we went to a few more over the years instead of going to the Revial meetings proper.

The Atlas pick-up - haven't seen one of those since I was a kid. Almost forgotten they existed. I take it the metal in front of the pilot on the Blenheim is supposed to offer him some protection. Wouldn't have fancied it back then but for flying these days what a beautiful view you must get.

The Blenheim was originally a later one with the long nose that crashed on landing at Duxford soon after it had been restored, I think the undercarriage collapsed, anyway during the restoration after the crash the Mk1 front end came to light, I can't remember if it was being used as a chicken shed or a motorbikes sidecar! Much more interesting as the Mark 1. The Peugeot motorbike with the Gnome rotary engine was at Classics on the Common at Harpenden this year, fascinating bit of kit. Brian 8227

Test days for the members meetings last year were Tue 24th Feb and Tue 10th March ahead of the event on Sat 21st and Sun 22nd March. I expect the "general testing" 3rd March and "HRDC track day" on 13th March would also have been busy. I think the main reason for the calendar is for their noise reporting. There's a lot on there explaining how and with daily reports. David

Read his biography which has a chapter or two on the Stratos's they rallied. Peter
