manual sunroof removal

tried to search for any tips, there are details around for the electric version removal but i can't find anything on the manual one.
i was hoping to find a big one piece removable structure once i dropped the roof lining down but it's all welded into place! other cars have a bolt in place one so that came as a surprise.
looking at it tonight the only thing i can see that can be done is to remove the 2 stainless guides once the roof is slid back and then pull it forward again whilst lifting it out of the opening.
so, has anyone done this before? guessing quite a few must have been removed by now for roof repairs?
if so are there any tips or any snags to avoid?
anything spring loaded to catch me out?
do i need to remove the handle mechanism or anything?

Don't they have a tilt position (lifted up at the back) as well as a slide? If so I would tend to think removal would be from the tilt position then doing something with front hinge. Alternately Betas had a slide only roof. Is it a similar fitting to that?

pretty sure it only slides, think it's only the electric ones that tilt?
i'll check tomorrow night if i get chance
just has a lever at the front of the sunroof panel that you swing down then pull back to slide the roof open

That's the way the Beta sunroof works. I would have a go at removing the stainless steel channels and gently pushing the sun roof up whilst checking for any fixings at the rear edge.

looks like that's the way, remove the stainless guides and pull the panel forwards and up through the opening.
won't be trying it until the car is under cover though incase i can't get it back in very easily!
