I quite like car SOS but having restored/recommissioned a number of old vehicles over the years I'm afraid I'd take some convincing about the thoroughness of the work which is claimed to be being carried out. I'm sure plenty on here will agree. Whilst many of the cases they bring are clearly worthy causes, one or two of the recipients of the free restoration job seem to be quite well-heeled and not in any particular need of charity. I couldn't help thinking the family of the Daimler Dart owner had called SOS in order to ensure that when the old boy slipped his mortal coil they would have a valuable old car to inherit ! Call me a cynic...

I enjoy it, especially that lovely little Alfa last week, but the 'handovers' are now becoming slightly farcical. If your family tell you that your car has to be moved somewhere else for a while, you are then interviewed about your hobby and the conversation gets around to cars, then you meet a vicar or win a trip to a car museum, I would visit your doctor for a check up.

I've seen Fuzz filling his car up at my local garage, I believe he's a local lad although I don't know him personally.

I've saw him quite a few times years ago; he was the drummer in Pop Will Eat Itself who were big on the Indy scene in the late 80's early '90's. Still tours I think.

It’s an Ok programme, although they used to show a lot more of actual car’s restro in the early series. I think the work they do, seems to be to high standard, some of the cars they do take right back. But it’s Tim Shaw and his producer lead antics that really grates on me, for that reason I find it hard to watch nowdays.

Yes, it's Tim's antics that are time-wasting. Obviously the restoration work is highly compressed for the programme. Last week he was told no Alfa body panels in under 5 weeks and yet miraculously they appeared without explanation. Fuzz's standards seem high and I imagine he's very good on a job given the normal time he needs. I looked up his website once and he welcomes owners to come in and help and learn about their cars. Be good to have someone like him local. I get the impression he wouldn't just do work for the sake of it.

Being a television show I suspect the neediness of the owner sometimes takes slightly second place to presenting an interesting car. That said, the show is infinitely less cringe worthy than Wheeler Dealers. I really can't take seriously their so called knowledgeable purchasers who say what fine condition the car is in post restoration whilst ignoring the fact that the components underneath are caked in rust and dirt.
(Somehow I still can't resist watching though.)

Manning the LMC stand at the recent NEC show for the weekend and being near the live stage, saw both Tim and Fuzz walk by. it looked like Tim was there for the day when they gave the Nissan Skyline back whilst Fuzz was there for the weekend.
Tim looked the right diva with an entourage (including having a spot light on him) as he went past whilst Fuzz walked by on his own. Ant Anstead from The Love of Cars and Edd China also walked by unaccompanied a few times on there own.
Guy Martin came onto the stand and looked at Steve Pilgrims Integrale, but I was talking to someone with my back to him, and was only told as he walked off the stand towards the live stage.

I really enjoyed it, though I don't think Tim's gooning around adds anything at all. I hadn't realised that a couple of LMC members feature during the Zagato interlude.
