Happy new year to all.

Anyone know what can be done about a rusty fuel tank?
Are new ones available?

Car wasn't running well and I found carbs full of sediment.
Looked inside tank and it is very rusty inside. Has holed in places and been repaired in the past.

Any advice would be appreciated.

best to buy a new one. You can seal them but my experience of the frost product is caveat emptor. Omicron say they have remanufactured so you could try them or Cavallitto.

Glad you can get new tanks. I know I could have treated and sealed the old tank, but it's a hit and miss affair.

Will call Omicron in the morning. Good job I will back at work earning some money.

Cavalitto had them in stock when I was last there a couple of months ago and give excellent service. If you try to restore your tank I suspect you will be chasing your tail unless you get an expert to cut it open and repair it properly which might well be more expensive than a new one.

Thats the problem I had with my Flavia Vignale Injection tank. In the end I have had to cut the top off and was amazed how little the sealant covered the rusty bits - you would never know....

I was researching this topic a while back.  There is some useful information in one of the forum posts.  I found that the titles of posts don't always indicate what is contained - especially as some topics evolve into others.  When I read all of the forum posts on purchasing my S2 Coupe I built myself a crude index of topics that helps me find things!!  On about Page 7 of the Fulvia Forum look for a post by Franco1966, with a last post date of 21 October.  The title is "New Member 1966 S1 Fulvia 1.2".  It includes some interesting information about fuel tanks.

Bought a new one from Omicron. Great service, as they had them in stock and sent it out the same day.
It's a perfect recreation of the original and fitted without any messing around. Only issue is the cost, but this is sort of understandable as tooling up steel pressings is expensive.

Not sure what to do with the old tank. Should I just chuck it out, or hang on to it in the unlikely event I'll get it refurbished some time?

Car going much better now that the carbs aren't full of rust.

Aaron Radiators will cut it open, clean and paint.

Did a great job on the Dilambda - no one seems to make these days.  Grin

Since fitting the new tank, I have so far failed to fully seal the filler pipe connection.

I assume that the rubber seal should compress between lip on the filler pipe and the end of the tank threaded pipe. What seems to happen is the the seal is riding up over the OD of the tank threaded pipe.  Rubber seal is square section.

Maybe I am tightening the nut up too much.

Anyone have any tips on making this join work?

I understand that a fulvia top hose is correct diameter and can be cut up to make another gasket if you have distorted yours.
