Can anyone advise on a replacement electric fuel pump for a Flavia Iniezione 1.8 KugleFischer? The one in the car currently is an aftermarket item 36.5mm diameter and 8mm/11mm out/in. It has 532 and 03890-2 stamped on the alloy body. I have no idea of its specification, but I have read that the KF system requires 1.1 to 1.7 bar pressure. This is not something current ranges of injection pumps provide (ie 3 bar and 10 bar are common...).

I think we have been here before with this question. I am sure you are correct, it needs to deliver fuel at a minimum pressure of about 2 bar. Whatever pump that Lancia used has not been available for many years. There may be a VW equivalent, as used for the VW Variant, which used a similar injection system. In my experience, it was shortcomings in the performance of this pump that led to many of the problems with Kugelfischer Flavias.

Peugeot 504 had KF systems around the same time. I think we (Flavia Consortium) used to advise checking their parts books. Brian

I would expect the main injector pump to cope OK with 3 bar as well as it would with 2 bar. I would be more concerned about the need for flexible petrol lines and unions to cope with this pressure, when even a minuscule and invisible leak could be a major fire hazard. Which is another reason why so few Kugelfischer cars survived!

I am replacing all fuel lines.....
Spec says 1.1 - 1.7bar if below or above this can lead to problems so says the manual.
Anyway I would think without regulation this mini Walbro type pump can easily do 3+ bar so I have ordered a .5 to 5 bar adjustable regulator which I will set with a gauge...

I have been in contact with a member of the Lancia Club france, who has had numerous Flavia Iniezione, Coupes and Cabriolets. He confirmed that the electric lift pump you are looking for is best found under the Peugeot 404 or 504 reference. The original one is PLF 6, where the hydraulic part is Kugelfischer, and the electric part AEG. There is also a replacement Bosch pump. A lot of info can be found by searching "Kugelfischer Peugeot 404" on the net, for example here: http://philippe.boursin.perso.sfr.fr/pdginj5.htmSome nice illustrations, and guides for setup. Maybe a visit to your local Peugeot garage could help? Good luck!

Sebastien
Many thanks. Very interesting article. Just to clarify it is the fuel pump rather than the injector pump I am trying to resolve. Not sure if my car had the plf5 or plf 6 but will see if I can regulate the pump that is currnetly fitted while looking for a more correct solution.

Spent a couple of highly instructive hours at Lucas Developments having my KF Injector pump inspected.
It was not pumping before due to stuck pistons (I suspected as much), but glad I did not try to do this repair without the trade secrets.
Mike was happy with the volumetric performance of the pump after un-sticking the pistons, and also demonstrated what a good injector spray should look like.
Reconditioned injectors are seriously expensive so I hope mine do the their job (I did not have them with me....).
Regarding the spray pattern Mike said he had not seen this as well specified as in the LANCIA KF manual which I showed him!!!
All I have do is refit the pump etc and hope the car starts.......

OH I should also update the fuel pump issue, which I hope to have resolved with adjustable 0-50bar Fispa fuel regulator set to 1.8 bar on the supply side and utilise the current hi pressure fuel pump that came with the car.
