We normally have Pete Gerrish's excellent 'cut away' Fulvia engine on the stand, but it was given a rest this year. To be honest, I don't think it always attracted that much attention.
On Saturday opening the bonnet on the 8.32 always drew a bit of a crowd. I do agree though that any live action on the cars will garner attention.

Thanks Tim, lighting is awful I try to make the most of any early daylight coming through the skylights, after midday everything is orange .

I appreciate the long exposures - and that you had to lug a tripod (I assume) to get them for us to appreciate. It really makes the cars pop out, a bit like portraits of people using a shallow depth of focus.

Also having the people blurred out by movement helps the cars to have prominence.

Maltby must be turning in his grave! Looking through the Robert Elwall book I see he got people frozen in focus but it would be interesting to know how you would achieve that at the NEC.

Use a faster shutter speed. With modern digital cameras, that isn't a problem, as they almost see in the dark! Most of Maltby's photographs were taken on a half plate camera, using relatively slow film, so the problem was much greater then. But getting people to keep reasonably still and using sufficient extra lighting, one could get sharp pictures. When I worked for him we did a lot of exhibition photography, but most clients wanted the stands to be free of people, which made life easier.

Steve many thanks - excellent presentation with many non club viewers Brian Mills Hi I'm setting up the slide show for the NEC ( using the Raspberry Pi and the TV ) as we've done for the past few years at the show. The photos selected are all picture put into the club database over the past year plus any pictures we have of the cars on the stand. This means that if you'd like your car to appear on the slide show then all you need to do is log onto the database www.lanciadb.co.uk , register your car ( if not already done so ) and upload a picture ( with a description for the picture if possible ) using the camera icon Pictures then get automatically added to the Slideshow which is produced just before the show starts - we usually have 50 - 70 pictures and they cover all sorts of things. 'Real' period pictures can also be uploaded - you just need to scan them first into a jpg file and then upload them using the camera icon. As well as adding to the NEC stand, the photos are kept , tagged and form part of the clubs history.

Yes ! A combined stands really works and whilst we have always tried to do this for Lancia, this year was really good . Alas talking to the organisers has the opposite effect as they want as many different "clubs" as they can get. So a combined Lancia stand gets the same space offering as the Ford Zodiac Mark 3 Owners Club for example. Brian Mills Hi All
Have to agree that a single stand works well, would have been preferable if we could also have the Monte cons. on it as well which would have made a complete group. Just wondered if it was possible to talk to the organisers as a combined group rather than having to each apply separately? Not sure if this would impact potential stand size?
On the lack of sliding pillar cars, I have two observations on this from my time on the stand last year and this (Friday only).
1) The Aurelia last year appeared to attract relatively small amount of interest
2) My impression is that over the whole show there are very few pre 60's cars present
I am not saying that we should not have any on the stand, far from it, just that my feeling is that the vast majority of the visitors do not relate to the older cars and are looking at the cars which they remember having in the past themselves or in their family.

Really difficult job to get the balance right with over a hundred years of production to deal with. I've exhibited 3 cars over recent years; Modestine, Fanalone and Elaine Moore's Dilambda and all have attracted hugh interest. I was even sent a brand new Dilambda water pump body for free by one visitor! There are always a large number of older visitors who love to see the earlier cars. A vintage model, a design icon, a competition car and an integrale with a restoration in progress would be my choice. Moving pictures always draw a crowd as do mechanical parts.
However, the club stalwarts who give unstintingly of their time and energies every year and those members who present their cars deserve our grateful thanks for flying the flag.

Yes, to me that sums it up - although these things always subject to review - but you're going to be covering a very high percentage of visitor 'likes' with that
If I were to add one thing it would be an original Sega Rally Arcade machine as this features an integrale as this is itself a bit of history ( launched in 1995 ) - hard to find though.
