What was not obvious when I started was that the aluminium drum had a lip holding the cast iron liner in place along with the pegs, my theory was that if I bashed half of the lip off when the liner was cut in half one half could be tappe out and the other knocked out as it had room to move. One snag was when the liner was cut through it pinched the jigsaw blade and nearly pulled my arm off as the blade was stuck but the jigsaw still went up and down! I will have to decide if it is a good use of my time splitting the front drums up...watch this space.

Hi all
My mate Terry and I managed to refine the process to just one cut through the drum and liner and with a bit of levering the liner comes out in one piece...result! time spent down to about 15 minutes. Problem is we burnt out the jigsaw.

Hi,
I need:
1/ Horn
2/ x 1 Headlamp chrome surround
3/ Interier roof lamp assembly
4/ Heater valve and cable
5/ Speedo cable
6/ Side panels (by drivers and passengers knees)
6/ Possibly wiring loom.
I have finished phase 1 of the recommisioning so the car is safe and driveable. Phase 2 will be the nice to do items so I am sure I will need a lot more in due course. Will all the bits be kept in storage?
Cheers
Simon

Said goodbye to the S2 today...it seems the bottom has fell out of the scrap market as 3 metal recyclers were going to charge me to come and pick up the shell! anyway my local scrapman came and took the lot FOC so saved a lot of hassle. He wasn't too impressed that he could pick up one corner of the shell single handed.

Hi all
Amongst a lot of things picked up from the late Don Cross's estate was a small rather heavy bag containing ' a thing to trim your brake shoes with' so here it is in all it's electro/mechanical glory. The question is has any one ever used it and was it of any use?

ps I feel sure there must be some instructions somewhere but I have not come across them yet.

Attached to the plate were four large nuts that I assume act as spacers and would fit behind the circular plate that would be fastened on with wheel nuts. There were several grinding bits of different diameters so presumably you can take off enough to get the thickness of lining you require.

Some good news for a member with severe engine difficulties as he has reported the engine from Don Cross' estate is installed and going well.

Lancia produced a tool for trimming the front brake shoes on all the sliding pillar cars
I visited garage in Turin many years ago  where they had the adaptors for each model
it was was mounted on the stub axle and it had cutter to trim the shoes which you turned by hand
around the brake shoes so they fit the brake drum better and improves breaking .

My guess is Don's tool would do the job just as well

I must confess I am tempted to try this on some none asbestos shoes. I assume the ones on my car relined a few years ago will be in this category as I had to sand a lot off them to get the drums on so I think it will be a worthwhile exercise.

Hi to all Appia Consortium members past and present...you've guessed it I am on the look out for some articles for the newsletter as I will be getting the printing presses rolling over the next few weeks. In addition I will be sending out the renewal forms for membership. I have already received a renewal payment from our Scandinavian outpost well done Daryl!

ps as an aside I had a request from a member for a window winder handle as he had checked if the ones on his Appia would fit his Augusta...they do...result
