Finally had a chance to drive out in my Fulvia while on leave in UK recently.......and ran out of fuel 10mins from home !! Gauge was still showing tank to be half full. Is this normal with Fulvia's? Should I be working on monitoring my mileage ? Are there any modern fixes for an inaccurate fuel gauge ?

Maybe the sender in the tank is stuck at halfway due to corrosion / lack of use??? Carry a 5 litre can around until starts working properly. The sender will not mis read unless stuck. It may not work at all but that is not your problem.. Easy to inspect the sender unit out of the top of the tank.

Do you have the correct sender to match the same make of gauge, Veglia gauge and sender,  and Jaegar gauge and sender, if they are mixed then they are a little inaccurate.   Or as Tim says the sender may be stuck, easily checked by removing the sender from top of the tank in the boot, six small nuts.

I reckon the sender is stuck. Carefully remove it and free it off. It can then be bench tested.
