What a nice way to arrive at the Silver Flag with your Competizione on the back.

I am intrigued to see what this goes for.....and tempted to register for the auction. It looks in reasonable condition.

My thoughts exactly but would have to dispose of the tyre fitting equipment!!!

I wonder if the tyre fitting equipment folds away, down between the ramps?

The tyre remover isn't part of the truck! It is sitting on a block of wood and the cut off power cable can be seen on the right. No idea why they have included it in the photo.

I would have thought it irresistible to one of those Rudler boys.
Seems to be a bit of a gap where the engine should be.
Maybe slot in a Lampredi twin-cam?

Suspect the engine is under the seats? Set quite well back, you can see the alternator in one of the photographs.

Sadly just realised this auction is in Milan.... I thought it was UK based.

The engine is under the seats, if you look closely at the photo with the cover in front of the seats removed, you can see the alternator etc.

Ben, I thought exactly the same thing about the engine. I had to check through the photographs of Louise's Gino to realise how far back the engine is set. I hope there is another hatch under the seats to allow access to it. That would be sensible and make servicing etc so very easy.

I'm pleased the auction is not in the uk, not so much of a temptation!!

Yes - a nicely tuned engine to rival the fast Mercedes transporter of the 50's.

...and the engine cover is held down by Augusta type bonnet clips...

With the engine in that position you can literally do running repairs.

Somebody told me today at Padova that the reason all these desirable Lancia  (and Alfa Romeo) Lots are being offered without reserve is that they have been confiscated from someone and are being sold in lieu of debts. This also would explain why there are finished and unfinished projects.
Certainly there are some desirable cars being auctioned - very tempting.

Chris Is the gear lever just for show? I saw this on another car (Fulvia Z) for sale the other day so maybe its new thing.

On an unrelated point I love the "tray" in front of the steering wheel. Just right for a cappuccino and croissant...

I notice they put an estimate of between €5,000 and €10,000.

Been very remiss not checking up on the forum so missed this discussion!  Yes we're aware of the SJ transporter and can confirm that sofas are being checked and double checked again.  It would be mighty useful (if/when it works) given we're currently transporterless with 5 race cars.  But the auction is getting a lot of interest and the low estimates are likely be blown out of the water so it's doubtful there will be many bargains.   As Chris says, this is a seized collection and the government have a tax bill in the tens of millions to be paid...

I can't speak for the condition of it overall but can confirm everyone's comments re the engine location- as well as the engine compartment, you need to take the passenger seats out to get decent access as well.  It does look in reasonable condition but as per Gino, looks can be deceiving and parts are super tough to get so it will be interesting to see the underneath condition etc.

We'll be heading over to Milan as we've been thinking about a long weekend away before Christmas anyway and haven't visited Italy this year so no other excuse needed.  Other than a big red truck....😉

You know me too well Tim!  Actually I have refrained from looking at the bikes and motorbikes - I must be getting sensible in my old age!!

So we are currently in Milan and have taken a look round and watched a few of the lots go.  First thing to say is that it's simply heaving.  Someone told us there were 3 hour queues to register yesterday and that rings true with how packed it is.  The auction area is constantly rammed full of people and prices look very high.  Only seen two Lancia lots go and both for triple their estimates so as expected no bargains.

As to the SJ well it's had a respray so looks quite smart (some issues especially around the windscreen) but it's clear the brakes aren't working (story of our lives!) and it looks like the clutch needs replacing as there's a new kit boxed up in the van.  We'll have a think about it as we know how expensive it is to get the brakes working and there's a lot else that could be wrong.  I think a lot of people will get lulled into thinking it doesn't need much given the paintwork so I'm sure it will go for a lot over estimate.

Stiil on the upside I find an original and barely opened Super Jolly parts manual which we purchased for Gino.  Dikappa and kind Beligium friends gave me a photocopy of the manual which I cherish but it's nice to have an original to keep with Gino.

Please look out for the Moto Guzzi mountain mule and if there is space on the back of the Super Jolly transporter, drop it off on your way home ....

Is this an original Lancia Superjolly body option or a much later modn?
And if the transmission is missing (?) what are the chances of finding one with the correct final drive?

I wonder why the transmission would be missing, seen the engine is supported by it, it seems strange it has the engine in a normal position.

Shame the rear wheel arch is angular and not curved to match the front ones.... I wonder how many times over estimate it'll go for?

There was a gearbox in it when I saw it!

It was the auctioneers who said there was no transmission!

does anyone know if the Super Jolly used the Flavia subframe and cast alum suspension towers, or were unique ones made for it?

Well the winning bid was 55k Euros plus premium.  Prices flew up from 20k and there was a lot of interest.  I'm guessing that someone has bought it to transport their lovely Ferrari, Mase or Lancia and won't be put off by the lack of clutch or brakes.  Small fry if you own an expensive Italian super car!

What's very interesting is that from the spare parts in a box in the cab, it's clear this was once an ex-military vehicle which someone has bought and spent a fair bit to get in a tidy but not yet useable state.  I can't wait to see it finished and in good use.

And if anyone knows who bought it, we'd be very happy to help out with any advice needed and to invite them to our very limited  SJ club - just me and Dikappa for now ;-)

Geoff, the front subframe on the Superjolly is the same as the Flavia, but the suspension, although of the same design is all much larger. For reference see this article from a 1988 LMC Journal http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8486.0

The subframe is indeed a standard Flavia item, but that's about it.  The alu suspension towers are of a much more heavy design, the spring is much heavier, and all other items are adapted for the wider track.
Steering ball joints are the same, suspension ball joints are not and very hard or impossible to come by I've learnt...  Wheel bearings are much heavier, and housings are wider to accomodate them.
Also the engine inlet manifold is of a lower built, fan drive is from the crankshaft, and thus thermostat housing is also different...in short it's a real Lancia!
